We are to think continually

about the effect for eternity

of what we are doing

in the here and now.

Now maybe you understand why He begins this way, “Trust in me.” He says, “Trust in God. Trust also in me.”

You see, if Jesus is going to take us to that perfect world, it all gets down to this: are we going to trust Him? Are we going to commit our life to Him? Or are we going to keep control for ourselves? Are we going to trust Jesus to take us to that perfect home? “Trust in God. Trust also in me.”

I remember trusting George the first time I went up in a small airplane. It felt so unreal. I looked at his little airplane and I thought, “This is going to take me somewhere safely?”

Somehow when you’re standing beside those big jet liners, it sort of looks safer. But I stood beside this little mono plane and thought, “Wow. There’s only one propeller. What happens if that propeller stops going around? Wow. This is really scary!”

But actually, deep down, underneath the fear there was also trust. I trusted George. I especially trusted him as I saw him go through the pre-flight checklist. He checked everything. He spent 45 minutes going around the plane checking everything.

Then he put earphones on me and let me hear the radio chatter with the tower. He followed absolutely to the letter everything they told him to do. He got to the end of the taxiway to go out onto the runway and I just expected him to pull right out. He put on the brakes. Why was he stopping?

But he knew what he  was doing. All of a sudden, down comes a plane to land! I had looked and I hadn’t seen anything. But he had obeyed the tower who told him to hold his position.

I trusted a human being with my life. What about going to Heaven? We’ve never been there before.

No, we don’t know the way, but we do know Someone Who can take us there. Jesus says, “I am the way.” He is our pilot. If we trust Him, He will take us safely to our home in Heaven.
